Opened in 2009 the Nottingham Contemporary art gallery, designed by architect Caruso St John, was built in the chasm created for the railway tunnels of the 1980s. The lace pattern decorating the outside of the modern gallery is taken from a sample book of lace patterns from local lace manufacturer Richard Birkin that was found in a time capsule buried in 1847 and dug up in 1931 when the building housing Marks & Spencer was built.

Approximately 30,000 people suffer from cardiac arrests at home or in public places, in the UK each year, not counting cardiac arrests that happen in UK hospitals on a daily basis. This figure equates to around 82 cardiac arrests taking place every single day. It is for this reason Nottingham has now got several defibrillators dotted around the city.
